Mongrenier stands in the middle of its parc of 2.5 acres: the old oaks and plane trees on both sides of the allée up which you drive towards the Manoir give an indication of its history. The land had been used for agricultural purposes until we bought the property, so the gardens and flower beds have being created by us. We have installed a magnificent fenced swimming pool (11m by 5m), beside which you can relax in the sun; there are shaded barbecue areas and a large paddock for vigorous sports and a games room with ping pong and babyfoot. All around are magnificent views of the rolling, wooded valleys which provide peaceful pathways for walks and bike rides throughout the year. Recently, 52 kms of disused railway track, much by the banks of the River Ouest, has been very conscientiously converted into a safe and interesting way of discovering the local countryside for walkers, cyclists and roller bladders.

Jump out of the swimming pool having soaked up the rays and exercised the muscles and you should be ready for a bit of brain bashing at our open-air chess board, which was completed at the end of 2007 and overlooks the pool.

If you haven’t played open-air chess before, you will find that the game presents different perspectives to the more usual challenges facing the average indoor chess player!

The little hills and valleys that surround the Manoir are ideal for peaceful walks to explore the countryside and the many ancient bridle tracks offer tranquil opportunities to discover secluded picnic spots by the little streams. The River Oust, canalised in parts to form the Nantes/Brest canal, is only 4km away and, as well as boating and fishing, provides ideal cycling along the towpath. There are many delightful restaurants and cafés tucked away in villages enroute.
The impressive medieval town of Josselin is 6 kilometres away, with its magnificent chateau steeped in history and, within easy drives, there are other beautiful “petite cité de caractères”, which show off the best of Brittany, whether you are looking for historical monuments, museums, Celtic folklore or restaurants, shops and markets.

For the beach lovers, the coast is 40 minutes drive away. Exploring the Golfe de Morbihan is an opportunity not to be missed. Take a boat from Vannes - another fortified medieval town - to one of the many tiny islands in this inland sea and you will never forget the colours and seclusion of this very Breton experience, in all seasons.
If salt and sand are not your scene, then Le Lac au Duc (20 mins drive) is one of the largest natural lakes in Brittany (230ha), and provides swimming, boating, fishing and walking, plus a nine hole golf course, with many secluded picnic spots on the banks of this beautiful lake.

There are so many interesting places to visit and things to do, that you just have to come back again and again! Truly, Le Manoir de Mongrenier is in the heart of Brittany.
