Bon Aniversaire!

Welcome to le Manoir de Mongrenier, a listed Breton manor house, set in peaceful, rolling and wooded countryside. Steeped in history since the 13th century, le Manoir de Mongrenier and its 19th century farmhouse have been beautifully restored by Chris and Carol Sealy.

We are delighted to invite you to spend a holiday at Mongrenier, for a night – or a week – or more! Let us be your hosts in introducing you to this wonderful region of the Morbihan in Brittany, France.

Le Manoir de Mongrenier, which dates back to before 1248, is situated in the heart of rolling Breton countryside (shops 4km, medieval Josselin 6km). The Manoir offers all-year-round walking, fishing, biking, tennis and golf nearby. There are also two riding stables to choose from, within 10 minutes drive.

We would be delighted to welcome you to our holiday cottages and our bed and breakfast accommodation in le Manoir de Mongrenier.

We are delighted to offer all our cottage guests who return to le Manoir de Mongrenier, a discount of 10% off the cost of their second and subsequent holidays with us. And, of course, there will always be a bottle of wine waiting for you on the table, to start your holiday off in the right spirit!

Spring starts early at Mongrenier – this year, the first daffodil opened its golden yellow trumpet on 29th January, a good five days earlier than last year! Under the winter-bare branches of the ancient oaks, the white snow drops and crocuses have kept our spirits up but with the first daff, we know that Spring is upon us and the grounds of Mongrenier will turn yellow. We have planted more than 3,000 daffodil bulbs of various kinds and they are truly magnificent. Yellow is the colour of spring at Mongrenier with the waving mimosa trees, the tiny celandines, the hedges of golden forsythia and, of course, the first of our sixteen or seventeen species of butterflies – the brilliant yellow Brimstone with its distinctive, almost square wing-form. And this is also the signal for us to spring clean the cottages, ready for our first golfing guests.

We are fortunate at Mongrenier to have a number of very different and exciting courses within an hours drive, including the beautiful Ploermel “Hydrangea Course”. There are more than 100 species planted around the course which snuggles beside the largest natural lake in Brittany. The coastal courses are also magnificent but our favourite is one of a number of courses built round ancient chateaux. And in the Spring and Autumn, the courses are not expensive and are rarely crowded.

Perhaps it is the magnificent autumn colours of the thousands of oaks and chestnuts that garland many of the golf courses that makes the autumnal season also very attractive. Of course, as the leaves begin to fall, so a wayward ball becomes the harder to find but this is a small penalty for enjoying this very special Breton experience. At Mongrenier, we welcome golfing parties of up to four couples, wining and dining in our magnificent salle des fêtes and sleeping in our chambres d’hôtes and the Old Coach-house.

Let us help you to create a very special golfing holiday in the Spring or Autumn tailored to your golfing and gastronomic dreams, with our special off season rates! Call us to discuss the various opportunities that exist to enjoy your golf near Mongrenier.

In 2007, we finished the conversion of our new Salle des Fêtes, in the old longère, which is now available for hire (PoA) for parties of all sorts! We are able to cater for up to 16 seated guests for luncheons and dinners, small conferences and meetings and the room (96 square metres) may be rearranged to comfortably seat up to 30 delegates for presentations, etc. If we can’t offer sufficient sleeping accommodation for your party at Mongrenier, then we "overflow" to the beautiful Chateau Hotel (www.hotel-chateau.com) in Josselin with to-and-fro transport arranged. The Salle des Fêtes is not available for hire when we have guests in our cottages.

Let us assist you with planning a different family or business event at le Manoir de Mongrenier!

We completed the installation of our sauna in spring 2008 and it is now available for our guests. The sauna is in the downstairs cloakroom of the Manoir and has its own entrance from the courtyard. The cloakroom has been designed as a changing room (unisex) and has a toilet and a shower. Sessions are limited to three persons and there is a charge of 10€ per session (1 hour). Children under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult. A great way to relax after a game of golf or a good long walk or an energetic cycle ride!

On Saturday 24th July, 2010, music will once again ring out from Le Manoir de Mongrenier, as we are planning our eighth evening of Celtic music and dance, along with traditional Breton food of "galettes saucisses" (buckwheat pancakes and sausages) and, of course, the customary “buvette” (bar).

The evening will start at 20.00h with a concert entitled “Sax Celtica”. Michel Devillers, a professional jazz musician, mixes traditional Celtic/Breton themes and jazz improvisations to provide a wonderful and unique concert of this haunting and exciting music. “Because for so long Brittany has always welcomed me and because at last I now live here, it seems only natural and necessary that my saxophone plays her music”, he states and we are very lucky to have secured his involvement!

Then, at 21.00h, everyone will be on their feet for the “Fest-Noz”, traditional Breton dancing, with music by the group “Fanfan et Claude”. They played a major role in the revival of traditional Breton music in the early eighties and now, as celebrated exponents of this exciting dance idiom, they have enlarged their repertoire to encompass music from all over Brittany. Originally from Vannes, for more than thirty years they have been playing their music all over Brittany and northern France. At le Manoir de Mongrenier, the Fest-Noz is dancing for all ages and all abilities: grandparents, grandchildren, teenagers and adults, with linked fingers, wheeling and circling to steps danced for hundreds of years!

This will be the 8th “Soirée Celtique”, Concert/Fest-Noz at Mongrenier and the event is now firmly established in the Commune’s calendar, attracting more than 300 people. The evening provides an opportunity for French and English to join together in continuing a Breton tradition – and gives holiday makers the chance to take part in a real Breton experience.

Entry is 6€ per person, children under 12 and our guests at Mongrenier free.
